Not all competitive sports are glamorous. Competitive eating is one such
less than 
politically correct endeavor. In fact, the International Federation of Competitive Eating cannot even sign sponsors for event advertising. Poker and casino advertisers like GoldenPalace.net and Harrah’s are willing to participate, but the federation is seeking better known, mass market players interested in reaching the young men who frequent these competitive eating events. But food companies fearing association with obesity, run screaming. Oh course; this was not always the case. We learned from
Ad Age, that disgraced Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff once organized a Quarter Pounder eating contest at McDonald’s, with proceeds donated to the American Cancer Society. But for now, competitive eating is not attracting mainstream advertisers. Even Alka-Seltzer, a former sponsor, decided not to further tarnish their brand.
