Marketing Blurb gave up liquor snobbery years ago, and we are much happier today. We don’t worry much about Vodka, but like any consumer, we know that Stolichnaya is Russian vodka, and the other brands are pretenders. Well, as it turns out, we were all hoodwinked. Stolichnaya is indeed distilled in Russia, but—aha—bottled in Latvia! So if you insist on the real stuff, you are now forced to drink Imperia Vodka, which is distilled and bottled in Russia. Imperia was introduced in the US last year, and will finally become more aggressive promoting their honest heritage compared to Stolichnaya, Absolute, and Grey Goose. Imperia will spend $ 100 million in advertising over the next five years in an effort to claim the title of top-selling premium vodka in the US. According to The New York Times (free registration required,) “print advertisements are scheduled to run in a handful of luxury magazines and shelter magazines, including Vogue, W, Cigar Aficionado and Vanity Fair, and trade publications like Women’s Wear Daily and Adweek.” So raise a toast to Imperia, and then get back to work.
