Now you might think that advertising for trucks, SUVs, and muscle cars is more fun that advertising for subcompacts, and you would be right, naturally. But since gas prices are making everybody anxious these days, you can expect to see more advertising for the smaller, more fuel efficient vehicles. But for some, these vehicles are simply too small for comfort. Nissan hopes to take advantage of that point-of-view with their new ad campaign for Versa, the company’s new extra level compact car. The Versa is expected to compete head-on with the Toyota Yaris and the Honda Fit—but—aha—Versa is larger. So Nissan has created a clever campaign with Versa as the cure for Autoclaustrophobia. Print advertising layouts for the car actually mimic the style of pharmaceutical ads—including the tag line “ask a Nissan dealer is Versa is right for you.” Thirty-second television commercials will air in September. Marketing Blurb will miss the muscle car pitches, but the Chrysler 300 is so 2004. You can read more from Brandweek.
