Marketing Blurb loves Starbucks more than the next pundit. Our love is simple,
because we only buy black coffee—and maybe a scone if we are out-of-town. What we don’t need is anything else Starbucks offers. But Starbucks has a larger clientele, and never listens to us anyway. Despite the fact that their sales of non-coffee merchandise has dropped from a high of 8% in 1998 to only 4% today, the chain is planning a holiday blitz for gismos. According to Reuters, “the holiday line-up will feature a glittery snow globe on a gold-colored base, at least three kinds of Christmas ornaments, a reusable Advent calendar that turns into a miniature chest of drawers at the end of the season and a dessert plate reading "Cookies for Santa." Oh and look for Bearista Bears for the kids as well (honest.) Yes,
Marketing Blurb will visit Starbucks over the holidays. And yes, we will temporarily enjoy peace on earth and good will to men. But we will skip the ornament and go for the good stuff.
