Back in the 60s and 70s, (before weenie 80s pop music,) rock and roll musicians played small venues where fans could easily smell sweaty rockers. There were no monster stadium gigs, and no quarter-acre-sized video screens for fans two miles from the stage to see the show. So Marketing Blurb is pleased to learn that T-mobile has decided to reach their target audience of young customers in the UK by sponsoring smaller, more intimate rock concerts. According to BBC News, we’re talking 300 people invited to a basement club. This is low-key but effective marketing. “They are "breaking the mold" of advertising, says Professor Leslie de Chernatony, director at the Centre for Research in Brand Marketing at the University of Birmingham. "We're living in a post-brand era where all the rules are being rewritten," he says. "Things are moving toward more one-to-one campaigns. What we're seeing here is the beginnings of that."
