Okay, so everybody knows Lassie, but we have never heard of Lassie Pet Products. But now we know, because Lassie Pet Products is launching a contest for a new dog to appear on packages of new Lassie Natural Way dog food. You enter your pet online at Lassie.com. There will be six voting periods, and consumers will vote on their favorite submission until the contestants reach 12 semi-finalists. The finalists will be asked to submit more photos and a 25-word essay titled “Why is my dog my best friend?” Semi-finalists receive a year supply of Lassie Natural Way food. And of course, the grand-prize winner flies to Los Angles to meet the real Lassie for a cameo TV appearance, and a photo shoot for the dog food bag. Marketing Blurb thinks this kind of viral marketing is great fun, and effective for the intended target audience. Of course our dogs will not enter unless someone from Lassie Pet Products contacts their agent. We have no desire to meet the real Lassie, who we know only appears in black and white.
