Now you might think that mobile calling plans are easy to understand, and you would be wrong, naturally. You’ve probably seen commercials for Disney Mobile, and the pitch seems simple enough. You can snoop on junior, and junior can call you. But as it turns out, Disney mobile offers all kinds of other features. And to make sure you understand those, Disney is producing a so-called “long-form” 30 minute infomercial to air on ABC Family in November. But perhaps more importantly content from this infomercial we be repurposed in other venues. Disney estimates that 80% of the footage will also turn up on the Web, mall kiosk monitors, DVDs and 2-3 minute TV commercial breaks. The long-form pitch plus all these other trick plays are expected to boost conversion, naturally. While we are not keen on cell phone culture, we agree that cell phones for children are a good idea. We suspect the Disney Mobile plan is a good one—we just wish that cell phones for kids would not require branding.
