Earlier this month, Marketing Blurb told readers about the McDonald’s Hummer Happy Meal. We naively expected kids would appreciate playing with a toy Hummer. Actually, kids do enjoy playing with toy cars. But we neglected to anticipate this happy meal as a gold mine for the watchdog Environment Working Group to lodge a complaint. The EWG says Hummers create pollution that can cause children to develop asthma. "McDonald's is promoting Hummers, the least fuel efficient and probably most pollutant vehicle people can buy at a time when gas prices are at an all-time high," says Environmental Working Group spokesperson Lauren Sucher. McDonald’s calmly reminds the EWG they are offering toys, not the real vehicle, and that the Hummer is one of eight different toy vehicles in the promotion. Oh, and there is this fun protest site called Ronald MdHummer you won’t want to miss. Marketing Blurb loves the environment as much as the next pundit, but we wish watchdog groups would find more productive ways to spend their time. We learned about this nonsense from Promo Magazine.
