Life Cereal from Quaker Oats, is teaming up with children’s publisher Chooseco to offer an online game and DVD based on the Choose Your Own Adventure book series. The result is The Abominable Snowman, a DVD that allows kids to change the plotline as view a story. (There are eleven possible outcomes.) And as you might expect, this story has to include a product placement. It just so happens that Life cereal is the favorite food of a Himalayan Yeti that characters encounter while searching for a missing uncle in the mountains. Life Cereal boxes hype the DVD with a $ 3 rebate offer. (Nope—the DVD is too expensive to pack inside.) There is also a sweepstakes offer where the grand prize winner receives a role in a future Chose Your Own Adventure DVD, and a year’s supply of Life cereal. You can sample the adventure with games from the Lifecereal.com website. We did not learn about this from a cereal box—Promo magazine told us.
