Macy’s Mega-mall Make-over
Back in 1990, Marketing Blurb traveled to Minneapolis for a business meeting with a now defunct online technology company. While the meeting proved fruitless, we were dazzled by an enormous steel girder skeleton we observed on the horizon. The structure was so monstrous; we assumed the governor was building the Tower of Babel. We learned from our host that this was to become The Mall of America, the mall_of_america.jpgmother of all shopping centers, the shopping center of the Gods. We never have visited the finished mall, fearing God might strike it down and send shoppers away speaking in tongues. Of course, the mall has since thrived—except for the Macy’s store. According to WCCO, the local CBS affiliate, The Mall of America Macy’s store is an embarrassment to the chain. “Even the store manager admits it -- cluttered aisles, haphazard displays, dingy fitting rooms and mediocre merchandise have been the norm the last few years at Mall of America's Macy store.” Fortunately, headquarters has finally taken notice and assigned their Marshall Field’s division to conduct a Macy’s make-over. When completed, the store will look more like a Midwest Marshall Field’s location with the Macy’s moniker. In addition to upscale decorating the store will feature more stylish merchandise. Marketing Blurb thinks this is a fine idea, allow we still have no plans to return to The Mall of America.
