Now you might think that your life is tough, but are you suffering from quarter-life crisis? We never knew such a malady existed until we read an article in AdWeek about Unilever’s advertising campaign for Sunsilk shampoo. The shampoo targets the 25-year old single woman who is in the so-called quarter-life crisis. According to Susan Noble, senior partner and group marketing director at media agency MindShare, this woman has “one foot just out of college and one foot in the professional world, and she's trying to create a balance between the need to go out and see friends and the need to be at work the next day." (And we always thought our life was difficult!) Anyway, to reach this quarter-life crisis woman, Unilever decided to advertise in multiple places, like movie theaters, bars and malls, as well as TV, online and print. We’re talking mall displays that speak, a profile on MySpace, and “eye-catching 3-D displays in close to 900 bars in key target markets, such as Chicago, San Francisco and Philadelphia.” While this is probably a reasonable approach, we think it would be far easier just to invite these women (one at a time) over to our place for a quick shampoo. But then again, these women already have fathers.
