If live gives you ground round, we say add a dollop of Heinz Ketchup, and chow down. And if you are serving Heinz, why not pour or squirt the stuff from your own personalized bottle? We learned from AdRants that Heinz is extending their Talking Label campaign which allows consumers to choice a favorite bottle style and then personalize the label. Examples from their website include birthdays, graduation, and—ahem—weddings. We think product personalization is an excellent idea for those patient enough to pay a premium and order via mail. We think personalized ketchup labels are ideal for a family reunion cookout, but we are less certain about the utility for a wedding reception. But hey, we think this reinforces what we always tell our marketing students: companies do not own their brands—consumers do!
