Subway has decided to jump on the mobile marketing bandwagon by testing a promotion in selected franchises in Buffalo. Consumers who register for The Subway Mobile Alerts Club will receive real-time alerts of coupons, discounts, and special offers via cell phones. Subway is targeting a 2-3 % response rate based on similar mobile campaigns. Mobile marketing has proved effective for other food companies including Potash Bros. Market (a Chicago grocery chain,) and Cape Cod’s Ring Bros. Marketplace. The mobile industry is projecting that 89% of brands will use text and multimedia mobile messaging by 2008. Marketing Blurb believes this projection is wildly optimistic. We will admit, however, that responding to mobile marketing promotions is not our style. We prefer to talk to people on our phone.
