Business travel has changed dramatically over the years, and significantly over the last few weeks. We used to travel with a few simple rules. The first and most important--never drink airline coffee, which is brewed using water from the onboard tank which is never cleaned or even completely emptied and refilled. And so like countless other travelers, we boarded our morning flight with the best coffee we could find near the gate
(Starbucks if we were lucky.) But these days, even advertising must be terror approved. For example, we learned from
USA Today that Dairy Queen was forced to pull a popular and productive commercial for their
Caramel Chip ChesseQuake Blizzard, because the spot featured a businessman boarding the plane with beverage in hand. (The popular Blizzard has boosted same-store sales 4% this year.) Dairy Queen is taking the ban on onboard liquids in stride, and working on a new creative approach. Oh, and until we can take our own coffee on board—we might never fly again.
