Marketing Blurb was not born with do-it-yourself genes, nor were we nurtured with do-it-yourself projects in our formative years. As such, it was not until we became a homeowner that we learned home improvement projects by fire. Now mind you, we say away from room additions and big stuff, but we tackle pumping and other non-electrical repairs with glee. (Okay, so
glee is too strong a word, but we do tell our wife “yes.”) But higher energy prices and a weakening housing market are taking their toll on home
improvement giants Home Depot and Lowes. The stock value of both companies has dropped about 15% this year. On the plus side (depending on how you look at the world) both companies expect increased sales over the coming hurricane season. Home Depot is expected to weather the pre-hurricane consumer depression because of their wholesale contractor business.
