If there were more hours in the day, Marketing Blurb would watch more football. But since the job of marketing pundit is time consuming, we must be selective about our choice of contests. Think Ohio State versus Texas—which will be HUGE. But a number of advertisers want to reach more serious football fans—those males who watch multiple games per week. And as such, NBC, CBS, Fox, and ESPN football are virtually booked for the entire season. According to AdWeek, about 85% of ad inventory is already taken by the usual suspects—autos, beer, pizza, and burgers (GM, Ford, Toyota, Coors, Papa Johns Pizza Hut, and Burger King.) Many of these advertisers are crafting football specific commercials. In a perfect world, we would watch all the games in the back of our pick-up while enjoying edible products from the sponsors.
