Consumers trust blogs more than company websites—
or not—depending upon who you ask. Until recently, buzz pundits were waving studies indicating that consumers do not believe company websites, but instead, trust blogs and product review sites written by their peers. But a new study by Jupiter Research finds just the opposite. In the Jupiter Research study only 21% of responding consumers said they just information
from blogs and public forums when making a purchase. Those same consumers were twice as likely to “trust information on a corporate Web site or a professional review site, such as Edmunds.com.” But advertisers are continuing to pursue blog readers. About 20% of advertisers polled said they were planning to use some kind of alternative media marketing, primarily for branding. The Jupiter Research study is based on 4182 consumers and 273 advertisers.
