Advertising on Social Networks
Marketing Blurb is not keen on the idea of advertising on social networks to reach teen or young adults. (If you want the complete scoop, see our commentary on eStrategyOne.) We think advertising on MySpace or Facebook is a dumb idea because these neighborhoods are polluted with garbage, and members just laugh at “the man” trying to appear hip. But our opinion has not stopped JP Morgan Chase, Burger social_networking.jpgKing, Apple and Wendy's, Time Warner, Disney, and others for entering the medium to rub shoulders with the unwashed and unclothed. Burger King built a profile for their King on MySpace. The King quickly acquired 120,000 friends—members with far too much time on their hands. JP Morgan Chase has a more promising approach; they are using Facebook to recruit on campus ambassadors to pitch credit cards face-to-face. But in either case, members of these sites are laughing at advertisers, not embracing them. You can read more from Business Week.
