Only this year, it seems, the industry is buzzing about older women like Sharon Stone, aged 48. Stone replaced the 20-year old Olsen twins and the spokes model for designer Badgley Mischka. At 47 years old, Madonna is appearing in advertising for retailer H&M. At 52, Christie Brinkley is still working for Cover Girl, and 60 year old Diane Keaton pitches L’Oreal. This kind of boomer fashion renaissance is ideal for the new Forth & Town retail chain aimed at women aged 35 plus. Of course, demographics play a role in emphasizing fashion for older women. There are 41 million boomer women in the US, and they are scarfing up items offerd by Eileen Fisher, J Jill, Chico’s and Coldwater Creek. Marti Barletta, president of The TrendSight Group, says that 50 year old boomer women are happier with their personal identity than younger women.
