Burping an Orphan Brand
Sometimes, old brands never die. Sales may decline, but certain brands, like Bromo Seltzer, remain bubbling in the cultural psyche. Bromo Seltzer dates back to 1888. Developed by Newmark Laboratories, the brand peaked under the ownership of Warner-Lambert, creators of Listerine. But the once-famous brand was eclipsed by other products and has changed hands several times over the years. Such products bromo_seltzer.jpgare called “ghost brands or orphan brands” in the trade because they were neglected or abandoned by their original owners. But according to The New York Times (free registration required,) Tower Laboratories, the new owner of Bromo Seltzer, is convinced they can revive the classic brand…with a burp. Tower  is introducing a new television campaign next week which “will feature a "Bromo burp" as a mnemonic device it hopes will become a catch phrase for the effervescent antacid and analgesic.” Marketing Blurb has not seen the creative, but we believe a resounding belch is ideal for television audiences who spend much of their time in front of the box eating and burping anyway. Dear Sir: The drug that you should re-patent is tedral that was made by Park-Davis. It was a excellent drug from varius lung illness and asthma. It was taken off the market because of profit margins were low because the FDA allowed every moron under heaven to make this drug without telling the FDA.The doctors hated it because it was over the counter. They could not rip people off by making people pay $40 to come and see the MD. All the research is done and the market is good. All the asthma drugs on the market today are worthless.
