We often times talk about sweepstakes and contests on Marketing Blurb. We do this to chide advertisers and remind readers that most of these are a waste of time. Contests and sweepstakes might yield additional brand impressions, but overall, marketers simply collect entries from treasure hunters who are not members of the desired target audience. But aside from that, we rarely talk about contest winners—until now. Jay Pearcy was selected the winner of the Anheuser-Busch “Here’s to Beer” content, Pearcy’s 50 word essay described his choice of President Roosevelt as his preferred drinking buddy. Pearcy selected the President for his repeal of Prohibition saying, "There can't be anything better than the taste of the first legal beer in more than a decade, in such a powerful place as The White House, with such a powerful man as Roosevelt, immediately after the repeal of Prohibition.
