You already know that hospitals are dangerous places. But if the risk of rampant infections or malpractice does not kill you, watch what you eat. Marketing Blurb was not surprised to learn from the Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine, that 4 in 10 hospitals are serving unhealthy food to patients and visitors by allowing fast food restaurants to set up shop inside their facilities. While doctors are counseling patients to watch their weight and eat fruits and vegetables, the hospital is serving Krispy Kreme doughnuts, Burger King Whoppers or McDonald’s Big Macs down the hall. A survey of 234 hospitals revealed the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia includes a McDonald’s. The Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt University includes a resident Taco Bell and Pizza Hut. “It is deplorable for a doctor to lecture a patient on taking more careful precautions against heart disease while there is a McDonald’s in the hospital’s lobby serving a fried food lunch,” said author, Dr. Lenny Lesser.
