Flirting with McDonald’s Beef
Regular readers know that Marketing Blurb does not eat at McDonald’s. We prefer dining venues without plastic seats, sticky floors, red and yellow décor and clowns. Yes, McDonald’s is remodeling some of their locations, and the results are decidedly more upscale. But what McDonald’s lacks is sex appeal. Ronald McDonald has this china_lips.jpgwonderful smile, but maybe the restaurant should goose us with the lips of  say, Angelina Jolie. Aha—according to The Wall Street Journal (paid subscription required) McDonald’s is flirting which just such an approach in their new advertising campaign in China. A billboard for the McDonald’s Quarter Pounder features a close-up of female lips with the headline “Beef is luxurious. Beef is healthy. Flirt with your senses.” We tried to find a larger image of this poster—so please send us a link if you have one! Sorry, Ronald—but this is the approach you need to sell us a Happy Meal.
