In a famous “duh” moment, at the General Motors Annual Dealers Meeting in Vegas this week, the automaker decided they need to focus on Toyota. According to Media Post Publications (free registration required,) the marching orders were simple: “We are going to focus on that issue and that issue solely—that Toyota is formidable, strong, and good at what they are doing.” GM then showcased their new advertising
campaign for Chevrolet Silverardo, which features the simple tagline “our country, our truck.” (Of course, Toyota already has a similar campaign, because they build their vehicles in the good old USA as well.) Dealers welcomed the new ad campaign and cheered with Chevrolet general manager Ed Peper acknowledged Toyota was the new competitive target. Peper said, “Look. We have been talking about battling Ford for number one for years. Let's get real. Our competitor is Toyota.”
