Yesterday, we saw an item in
Advertising Age about grocery shopping card video advertising. The photo angered us, and we refused to share it with our readers (until today, anyway.) If you think grocery shopping is not already painful enough, a company called Mediacart is offering high resolution shopping cart monitors that runs digital ads and promotion while you push your scream child down the aisle. Now you might think
this is a wacky idea, but the company conducted their own research, and 87% of shoppers they studied said “they would choose a retailer equipped with Mediacart over one without the carts.”
Marketing Blurb suspects the other 13% threatened to fire bomb retailers with such carts. But the video screen serve a purpose other than product promotion. Product RFID tags can alert the cart to the location of various items within the store. In other words, the screens can also function as store navigation maps to help users locate anchovies, ketchup or razor blades. We just hope stores with these monitors do not sell hammers.

When you see such cart and have the urge to fire a bomb, I suggest you seek professional help. It may be an early sign. We don't want to have something similar to what happened in Virgina Tech occurs in the supermarket. Just an advice.
