Starbucks is brewing another clever marketing ploy with
Salon, a temporary nomadic coffeehouse which offers a chic venue for local artists to perform. We missed their first such effort at the Sundance Film Festival in January. This time, however, Starbucks announced their Salon coffeehouse in the SoHo district of New York with a two-page spread in
The New York Times. For ten days, the temporary coffeehouse will offer daily
performances by 17 artists—some established, and some emerging. You can see a schedule with the performances at
www.starbuckssalon.com, a trendy website for a trendy, albeit temporary, coffeehouse. "Part of the idea is to go to cities with a nomadic, temporary coffeehouse/performance menu and be in major cities where culturally curious audiences are convened for other things," said Christy Salcido, a spokeswoman for Starbucks.
