Marketing Blurb likes to believe we are high tech. But we have to draw the line somewhere—and here is our luddite mandate. We only use a cell phone to make telephone calls. We do not take pictures with our cell phone, we do not access the Internet, we do not text message, IM, participate in McDonald’s coupons offers, or listen to music. As such, we are not really the target market for Clear Channel’s new mobile initiative offering streaming music, with advertising, to cell phones. Available through a
partnership with Cingular Wireless, the mobile broadcast will begin with Z100, at Top 40 genre station in NY. Clear Channel plans to expand the program to 100 stations with a year. Content requires a paid subscription, and will include the same content as on-air broadcasts, as well as unique branding for the mobile service. DKNY jeans is an early sponsor. Oh, and users can request songs via their phone, get wallpaper and traffic reports. We will continue to depend upon radio for this content, thanks.
