Marketing Blurb believes hands-on activities are a fine way to learning the marketing trade. You cannot learn point-of-sale merchandising for example, without getting your hands dirty stocking a retail display. And as it happens, a Citi Stop convenience store in Shyville, North Carolina decided to give two art students at the University of North Carolina at Ashville the chance to revitalize slumping beer sales at one of their locations. The students were hired to design, fabricate and install a sculpted entrance for the store’s walk-in cooler called the Beer Cave. Shoppers assumed the cooler was just a storage area, rather than a well-stocked shopping venue. After 400 hours of work, the students erected a steel entrance façade with icy aluminum stalactites. The store manager was delighted with the results, and the store has already dispatched the artists to a second location.
