Despite the promise of superior German engineering, Volkswagen has suffered in recent years from a series of nagging quality problems and diminishing world-wide sales. A series of new models is capturing more attention, and Volkswagen is trying all kinds of funky advertising to reach the target audience for various models. Here is a rather bizarre promotion idea we learned about from AdWeek. Volkswagen is bundling custom-made guitars with select 2007 and 2006 models. The guitars plug directly into the vehicle sound system, as well as personal computers, via a built-in pre-amp. Guitars also feature the VW logo, sport color pick guards matching the vehicle color, and include knobs and indicator lights matching the VW dashboard. For some unknown reason, the guitars include the Vehicle Identification Number. Why would anyone include this number on a product independent from their vehicle? Also, while Volkswagen drivers may strut air guitar with the best of 'em, do you really want to listen to some untrained goon entertain you from the side of the road? Photo Credit: AdWeek
