Back in April, Marketing Blurb alerted readers that Burger King was preparing to enter the gaming arena with branded titles for Xbox and Xbox 360. Today, we now have details. The King will star in three so-called advergames called Big Bumpkin, Sneak King and PocketBike. The games will be offered in over 7500 Burger King Restaurants for $ 3.99 each with the purchase of a value meal. Using advergaming is consistent with BK’s emphasis on new media marketing including micro sites, video downloads, and text messaging. Microsoft believes the King has pop-culture icon status, and is ideal as a branded game character. Distributing the game via Burger King restaurants will expose the Xbox titles to over 6 million customers everyday, and as such is a solid branding opportunity for Microsoft as well. Crispin Porter + Bogusky, Burger King’s agency, says the video games are consistent with the edgy attitude of adolescent males who are key to the company’s demographic.
