I received an email pitch from a PR flack the other day. He worked at one of the big firms that charge their clients a lot of money each month for their "expert" services. Let's call them Seber Whandwick for the sake of anonymity. The pr guy wanted to let me know via a hype-filled email that I should write about the company he was representing. He clearly hadn't read my blog. He was sending me a cookie cutter email and expecting me to fall over myself to write about the company.
Do I like the company? Yes. I've interviewed the founder for my podcast series and I think the team there is great.
Did the PR guy take the time to figure out that previous connection? No. Did he just grab my email and spam me? Yes.
I'm going to say this once more with feeling. Blogging is personal. If you want me or any blogger to write about you then talk to me like a person. Invest in a relationship ahead of time. And, please, please don't SPAM me with hype.
