Abusing Digg just got cheaper than ever. User/Submitter may simply be the cheapest possible way to buy traffic online right now. Cheaper than high-tech SEO, cheaper than buying links, cheaper that community marketing and cheaper than PPC.
Why go to all the work of gaming Digg when you can just pay someone else to do it?
Is this another tragedy of the commons? Or is there still hope for centralized social media sites like this?
As the gamers get more sophisticated, the systems need to keep pace. We'll see whether Kevin Rose and his team can keep up soon enough.
Am I being too cynical? What do you think?
