I was amazed to read that at a recent conference in the valley, AdMob, a mobile marketing company claimed 450 million (!) page views per month. Wow!
The company's basic model is as follows:
"AdMob is a mobile advertising marketplace bringing together buyers and sellers of mobile ads. Publishers simply place some code into their mobile web pages, and AdMob serves pay-per-click advertising directly to their users."
From a publisher's perspective, the approach looks fairly straight forward. You sign up for free, install some code on your mobile web pages and take 60% of all resulting revenue. And you get complete control over which ads are run.
From the advertiser's perspective, the model is the familiar pay-per-click auction but with a mobile flavor. The advertiser can control the site and target their ads by geographic region, device manufacturer, platform, and capability level.
Very cool and worth checking out!
