SPAM, SPAM, SPAM, SPAM, SPAM, SPAM. If you're like me, you still get a bunch every day (umm, google I know you're busy saving the planet but could you spend some time on that issue with gmail, please!) and you don't like it.
But it's not going away and today I learned of SPAM 2.0 - Image SPAM. According to a NYTimes article:
"Much of that flood is made up of a nettlesome new breed of junk e-mail called image spam, in which the words of the advertisement are part of a picture, often fooling traditional spam detectors that look for telltale phrases. Image spam increased fourfold from last year and now represents 25 to 45 percent of all junk e-mail, depending on the day, Ironport says."
Spammers are moving from CPC to CPM and blindsiding the antispam companies in the process. One industry expert isn't very optimistic:
“As an industry I think we are losing,” Mr. Peterson of Ironport said. “The bad guys are simply outrunning most of the technology out there today.”
