
I've been thinking a lot about the "long tail" lately (it's a great book and should be on your holiday wish list if you haven't read it yet) because I might be teaching a class centered around it in the Spring.
Today, I was pleasantly surprised to discover a great example of the long tail of search terms in a Danny Sullivan post comparing the traffic effect of Digg to Google News.
As part of his analysis, he looked at the distribution of search terms and the resulting traffic. Here's the resulting graph:
The first 10 bars on the left represent the traffic from the top 10 search terms. The huge bar on the right is the total traffic of all the other terms.
Pretty impressive, no?
