A new report released on January 9th, 2007 by the Susquehanna Financial Group on the growth of Internet advertising estimates that the industry will explode to $82 Billion by 2011. In order to reach that number, online advertising must grow by at least 21% annually over the next four years.
Roughly half the estimated 2011 total will be in the US and the other half international. Assuming their estimates are correct, the piece in the US would mean that online advertising was 12% of the entire US ad spend in 2011 (up from roughly 6% today).
If you were hoping the rate of change in the online marketing world was slowing down, I'm sorry. We live in interesting (and exciting) times.
