The Web Developer and Designer's Journal has a great article entitled Web 2.0 - Personal Branding Checklist. Personal branding is becoming more and more important in today's crowded online world and busy marketplace. Basically, your personal brand is the answer to the questions:
- Who are you?
- What do you do?
- Why should I care?
The article is one of the most lengthy and detailed I've seen on the subject, encompassing a 20 point checklist. (Personally, I'd move #20 to #1 but that's just me.)
The 20 points are:
- Know what you want
- Be able to articulate what you do
- Elevator pitch
- Be positive
- Have a blog / website / MySpace, or other online presence
- Business card
- Multiple e-mail addresses
- Phone
- Signature
- Logo
- Personal logo
- More than one resume
- Mentor
- Networking outlets / contacts
- Wardrobe style
- Multiple IM accounts
- Alias
- Mantra
- Speaking and PowerPoint template
- Passion
The article goes on to define and explain in detail each of these. Check it out.
