XBox has launched a new promotion in partnership with Old Spice. The deal is simple in its brilliance.
Xbox live has something called a "gamerscore" which measures the progress you've made playing games on the platform. A full-price title (probably $60 at retail) has 1,000 potential gamerscore points assuming you play every level at the hardest difficulty setting (that's a lot of work). A casual game has about 200 possible points.
The promotion basically pays gamers (with prizes like games and such) to increase their gamerscore. So let's see how this works.
Gamers buy games thereby benefiting MS.![]()
Old Spice gets lots of brand exposure to its young/male target market.
Gamers get free stuff.
MS gets gamers who habitually play the XBox.
A pretty brilliant win-win-win.
(My only nit-pick is that prizes seem pretty lame for the amount of work required.)
