This week, AutoVantage, an automobile membership club from Connecticut, completed their annual survey of 2,500 drivers who commute in 25 major metropolitan areas to determine how the cities stacked up in terms of road rage. Based on the results, several cities may have to change their tourism promotional and advertising strategies.![]()
For example, St. Louis was found to be the city where drivers were least likely to swear at another driver. Sounds like a great opportunity for a new ad campaign! In fact, they can use the title of this post for their new slogan. I don't mind. Portland, Oregon was found to have the fewest tailgaters and the most coureous drivers (bumping the 2006 winner, Minneapolis-St. Paul, out of the top spot).
On the other hand, Miami was found to have the rudest drivers. I was surprised by this. New York, Boston, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. rounded out the top five cities with the rudest drivers, but having grown up not far from New York City and knowing what it's like to drive there, I was surprised to learn Miami's drivers top the list when it comes to road rage. I've never driven in Miami, but the city may want to consider revamping their ad campaigns to say something like, "Come to Miami, but leave your car at home."
