As if there wasn't already enough hype around the launch of Apple's iPhone, now Playboy is upping the ante with the introduction of iPlayboy. In a press release dated June 28, 2007, Playboy says:
"Playboy.com is celebrating the glorious gadget with the launch of 'iPlayboy,' a collection of multimedia features guaranteed to turn up the heat on that cool, new phone. iPhone owners may visit Playboy.com to download a free set of twelve sexy non-nude Playmate wallpapers, a separate photo album with twelve additional Playmate photos, a complete 1-hour episode of Playboy Radio's 'The Playmate Hour' (SIRIUS Satellite Radio # 198) with hosts Miriam Gonzalez (Miss March '01) and Pilar Lastra (Miss August '04) and a Playboy.com Cyber Girl video, all customized for the Apple iPhone. It's the next best thing to having Playmates on speed dial."
Kudos to Playboy for proactively seeking a way to latch on to the inevitable success of the iPhone. In Playboy's press release, Playboy.com editor, John D. Thomas, said, "We have always tried to stay ahead of the curve by delivering the fun, sophistication and sexiness of Playboy to our fans on the newest and hottest media platforms."
Hugh Hefner and the Playboy company hves certainly made a strong comeback over the past several years and the brand seems stronger than ever with clever strategies manifesting in The Girls Next Door television series and the opening of new Playboy Clubs. With Christie Hefner being named to the Forbes list of the "100 Most Powerful Women in the World," it seems the Playboy brand revitalization effort is still in its early stages. What will they think of next?
If not already registered by Apple, anybody wanting to make money in the U.S. register all the "iName" possible, at the federal patent office. Google is already registering all the domain names they can such as googlesex or googlepizza...the power is in the brand!
