Nearly everytime we speak, we're doing some form of personal marketing. Have you ever thought about the part your American accent plays in your personal marketing and communications? It's true that people in different parts of the United States speak the same English language but with very different accents. Put a person from Boston in a room with a person from Texas, and they'll sound extremely different. I'm certain there are times when our accents can have a negative affect on our communications and personal brand.![]()
Think you don't have an accent? Try this short quiz at YouThink.com to find out what type of accent others perceive that you have based on how you pronounce certain words. It just takes a few minutes, and it's fun. My quiz results were accurate with a "Northeastern" response. Did the quiz "hear" your accent correctly? Stop by MarketingBlurb after you take the test and let us know your results.
