What American Accent Do You Have?

Nearly everytime we speak, we're doing some form of personal marketing.  Have you ever thought about the part your American accent plays in your personal marketing and communications?  It's true that people in different parts of the United States speak the same English language but with very different accents.  Put a person from Boston in a room with a person from Texas, and they'll sound extremely different.  I'm certain there are times when our accents can have a negative affect on our communications and personal brand.accent%20quiz.jpg

Think you don't have an accent?  Try this short quiz at YouThink.com to find out what type of accent others perceive that you have based on how you pronounce certain words.  It just takes a few minutes, and it's fun.  My quiz results were accurate with a "Northeastern" response.  Did the quiz "hear" your accent correctly?  Stop by MarketingBlurb after you take the test and let us know your results.

I think I have perfect non-reagional diction. My result was what they called "Mid-land" and is not necessarily "Mid-West" but instead the type of accent that reporters try to emulate.

Well, I took the test and I'm spot-on with my mid-west accent. This brings up a good point though of how audio/video advertising may have to be tweaked to appeal to a regional audience. You could probably take that a step further with other english-speaking countries like the U.K, where not only accent, but vocabulary, word-usage and culture may differ. Remember the "V" for victory sign used during World War II was considered a rude gesture on par with giving someone the "finger" in the U.K.

What American accent do you have? (Best version so far)
Canadian

People from outside North America probably think you're from the States, but over here we wouldn't make such a mistake.

실내 온도를 빨리 올리고 싶다면 가습기를 튼다

외출 후 돌아와서 집이 추울 때 보일러 온도를 무작정 높이지 말고 적당한 온도로 맞춘다.

대신 가습기를 틀어 집에 습기를 더한다.

보일러를 작동시키면 바닥이 덥혀지면서 집이 따뜻해지는데,

습도가 높으면 공기 순환이 빨라져 집이 빨리 데워지는 효과가 있다.
