Today, I found a post on Lifehacker that really made me stop and think. In "Motivation: Jerry Seinfeld's Productivity Secret," Brad Isaac describes the night he met Jerry Seinfeld and asked him for any tips he might have for Brad as a young comic. ![]()
Basically, Jerry's advice mirrors the old adage of "the whole is greater than the sum of the parts." It's a point we often miss in life and business. Jerry told Brad comedians need to write everyday. To pressure himself to write, he said to hang a big calendar on his wall that shows each day for the entire year. He should try to write each day then mark each day that he did write with a big red "X". Each successive day that is marked with an "X" creates a chain. The goal is to not break the chain.
On a funny note, I can imagine the character of Jerry Seinfeld from the Seinfeld television show neurotically marking days on his calendar with big Xs, but when you think about it, his advice is very good. Check out Brad's post at Lifehacker to see how he applies the advice to business and life. It's very motivational and really makes you think about how you attack each project and day.

I saw a similar point being made on CopyBlogger this week. It had a list of how to become a good writer. Every single list item basically said to ... write.
