As marketers and businesspeople, we bear a great deal of responsibility. That's why I felt very inspired today when I read Lewis Green's post at bizsolutionsplus called A Business Code of Conduct for Making a Difference.![]()
In Lewis' words, "Humbly I post this Uniform Code of Business Conduct, which if followed in some form thereof will lead us to carry out our business societal responsibilities in a way that preserves freedom and human dignity." I hope Lewis' list makes all businesspeople who read it stop and think for a few minutes. Without further ado, here is Lewis' vision:
Uniform Code of Business Conduct
- Do no harm, ever.
- Provide products and services designed to make lives better.
- Charge a fair price based on value that fulfills wants and needs.
- Create an environment that protects the environment.
- Never tell a lie or half-a-truth.
- Always put people above profit.
- Encourage freedom of expression.
- Recognize no one as more important than another.
- Practice fairness built on respect and dignity.
- Create happiness.
What do you think about this Business Code of Conduct? Is it something we can aspire to? Does the business world have a chance at following this code? Personally, I hope so, but that might be wishful thinking.
