Today, I found a great post at Little Red Shoes about discovering your brand equity. The post referenced Dane Carlson's Blog Worth Calculator which applies a dollar amount to your blog. Simply type in your blog's URL into the blog worth calculator and you'll discover what your blog is worth.![]()
Dave developed the Blog Worth Calculator using a link to dollar ratio created by Tristan Louis' research conducted in 2005 about AOL's acquisition of Weblogs Inc. It focuses on the theory that links are the most valuable aspect of a blog and monetizes those links.
Is the Blog Worth Calculator accurate? I don't know, but it certainly provides an interesting read on your blog's equity as well as a way to benchmark it against other blogs. From a marketing perspective, it's a great way to gauge the effectiveness of your blog, which can impact awareness and sales of your products and services. It can also help you determine your brand equity as presented by your blog and help you assess viral marketing efforts related to your blog. Best of all, you can compare your blog's worth to your competitors' blogs.
What's your blog worth? Are you satisfied with the results? Check out the results of some of your favorite blogs to see how they stack up. Then research the "priciest" blogs to find ways to improve your own. The opportunities for business and personal marketing are endless when it comes to networking within the blogosphere. Calculating your blog's worth is a great first step in developing a long term strategy for building your online presence.

I've played with this tool before, but before your post I never really understood how it worked. I think it can be somewhat misleading. In the case of my personal blog it assigned a really high value, but I think it's unlikely that I could sell the blog for that if I were to try and sell it.
