
Forbes.com reported today that things are not looking good for the newspaper industry. Ad revenues have been dropping steadly with no signs of turning around anytime soon. ![]()
Here's a quick overview of the decline from the last four quarters in comparison to ad revenues from the same periods one year earlier:
Third Quarter 2006: 1.5% decline
Fourth Quarter 2006: 2.2% decline
First Quarter 2007: 4.8% decline
Second Quarter 2007: 8.6% decline
Newspapers have been seeing advertisers move their budgets to online advertising and other media for years, so this is certainly not a new phenomenon. What do you think? Is the end near for newspaper advertising? Is the end near for newspapers as a whole?
Check out the full article at Forbes.com. It's sad to see newspapers struggling in so many ways. Still, I don't think I'd invest my advertising budget in a newspaper ad. The world has changed, and our advertising strategies need to change with it to appropriately reach our customers. Newspapers just don't seem to get the job done anymore.
