Earlier this week, I published a post called Publix Offers 7 Prescription Drugs for Free. It turns out, nothing really comes for free. The cost this time: Publix dropped is $4 Walmart/Target prescription price matching program.![]()
Prior to the launch of Publix's seven free prescription drugs program, the company would match the $4 price of over 60 prescription medications offered by Walmart (NYSE: WMT), Target (NYSE: TGT) and other retailers. Those 60 prescriptions included a wide variety of long-term medications. Over time, the $4 price matching program would save customers significantly more money than the seven free prescription antibiotics that are typically only used for a week or two.
As an aside, the Publix corporate office is denying publicly that they discontinued their price matching program, but Publix employees at the store level are confirming that they have been instructed to stop offering the discounts. Many customers are already feeling the effect on their wallets.
Long story short, Publix giveth and Publix taketh away. It seems like nothing comes without a cost these days. What do you think about this unfortunate turn of events?

I'm very disappointed. I really thought that Publix was trying to make a difference with their "free" antibiotics program and were putting image before profit. I tell you; Corporate America and their goodwill efforts often remind me of Lucy from the Peanuts, she'll hold that football and the public will believe and try to kick it...
remember reading that Florida's governor, Charlie Crist, was mentioned in the article as helping them make the announcement at a Fort Myers store. I wonder how he'll handle this poke in the eye from Publix.
