Rupert Murdoch & News Corp. Acquire Dow Jones & Wall Street Journal

Last month, I published a post about Rupert Murdoch's bid to acquire Dow Jones.  Today, after months of battles, Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. finally succeeded in acquiring Dow Jones from the Bancroft family.  The question remains, is this a sad day for the Wall Street Journal?Rupert%20Murdoch%20Wall%20Street%20Journal.jpg

It's public knowledge that everything Rupert Murdoch touches seems to take on his political opinions.  Fox News is the perfect example.  Will the Wall Street Journal, which has long been thought of as one of the most factual newspapers available, become another of Murdoch's tools to push his own political agenda?

According to CNN, "As part of the agreement, the companies said a 5-member special committee will be formed 'with the objective of assuring the continued journalistic and editorial integrity and independence of Dow Jones' publications and services.'  The move is designed to assuage some Bancroft family members' concerns that Murdoch will compromise the integrity of the Journal, which the family has controlled for more than a century.  Nonetheless, there still are worries about how the WSJ may change under Murdoch. Some fear that the paper's coverage may broaden beyond business and feature stories similar to those that appear in the News Corp.-owned tabloid The New York Post."

Only time will tell if Murdoch's reputation will prove accurate as it relates to his future influence on the Wall Street Journal.  What do you think about this monumental acquisition?
