
The NFL is standing firm in its requirement that photographers covering NFL games this season must wear vests displaying advertisements. The National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) doesn't like this requirement at all. Can you blame them?![]()
The NPPA claims their photographers are acting in a journalistic capacity and should not endorse products while acting in that role let alone become walking billboards. Of course, the NFL is not the first sporting event where members of the media wear "sponsored" clothing, but photographers fear the new red vests with both the Reebok and Canon logos on them are just the beginning of what will become vests covered in logos and ads.
The NFL purports that the Reebok and Canon (NYSE: CAJ) logos are appropriate because Reebok made the vests and Canon paid for them. Furthermore, the NFL states that the logos are very small and not the first step in a larger advertising plan. Do you believe them?
