Last week, I published a post about CNNMoney.com's list of the 100 Fastest Growing Companies in the USA from Fortune Magazine. One of the most interesting parts of the list is that over one-third of the companies on the list are in the energy industry. Today, I took a look at Inc. Magazine's list of the 500 Fastest Growing Private Companies in the USA, and the largest business categories on that list are quite different.![]()
According to Inc.'s list of America's Fastest Growing Private Companies, the top industries are information technology (56 companies), advertising and marketing (48 companies), human resources (40 companies), software (39 companies) and government services (38 companies). If you add the companies on the list from the information technology and software categories, the technology sector as a whole made up 95 (or about one-fifth) of the 500 fastest growing private companies in the United States.
Here are the top 10 companies on Inc.com's list of America's Fastest Growing Private Companies:
- MemberHealth
- Cedar Point Communications
- Hospital Partners of America
- Genoptix Medical Laboratory
- Red Ventures
- Fusion Solutions
- Groupware Technology
- M Space Holdings
- By Light Professional IT Services
- HyrdraMedia
Another interesting statistic from the list is that 90 of the 500 companies are based in California. You can see the full list of America's Fastest Growing Private Companies from Inc. here, and as information, here's how the top 500 are selected(taken from an Inc. August 23, 2007 press release):
"The 2007 Inc. 500 list measures revenue growth from 2003 through 2006. To qualify, companies had to be US-based and privately held, independent - not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies - as of December 31, 2006 and have had at least $200,000 in revenue in 2003 and $2 million in 2006."
Inc. expanded their list of America's Fastest Growing Companies to include 5,000 up-and-coming private companies for its 26th annual list. You can read more about the full list of 5,000 companies here.
