The Forbes annual list of the 400 Richest Americans was released this week, and Bill Gates ranks number one again this year. At just 51 years old, Gates is worth $59 billion. That's $7 billion more than the man in the number two spot, Warren Buffet and more than twice the man in the number three spot, Sheldon Adelson. The list represents a mind-boggling amount of money. Even the "poorest" person on the list is worth $1.3 billion.
Interestingly, five of the top ten individuals on the list work in the computer industry. Here's the rundown of the top ten people on the Forbes List of the 400 Richest Americans:
- Bill Gates - $59 billion
- Warren Buffet - $52 billion
- Sheldon Adelson - $28 billion
- Lawrence Ellison - $26 billion
- Sergey Brin - $18.5
- Larry Page - $18.5
- Kirk Kerkorian - $18.0
- Michael Dell - $17.2
- Charles Koch - $17 billion
- David Koch - $17 billion
You can see the full list here.
The Forbes list of the 400 Richest Americans is a unique club to be in. No doubt business acumen and marketing strategy played a part in getting these 400 people to where they are today.

I think it's interesting that you mentioned 5 out of the top 10 are in the computer & internet industry, namely Microsoft, Google, Dell among others. However, I'm curious to see others who made money from different industries. How long do you think it will take until computer & internet moguls populate the top 10?
Warren Buffet, at #2, on the other hand seemed to have made $52 billion out of investing. NewsVisual has an interesting Knowledge Map showing his reach in other industries. Check it out here: http://www.newsvisual.com/newsvisual/2007/09/buffett-gates-t.html
